Joined us today. After seeing this darling little boy with the firefly in the jar on Audrey Kietscher Helbling’s blog “Minnesota Prairie Roots“, I was “on the hunt” this addition. So, in honor of his “natal day” into our family, some pictures from the “album”………..Until next time…………

I had to laugh at the flamingo flocking too. Just imagine walking up to a garden full of flamingos. LOL.
I am so pleased your little addition finally arrived OK Doreen. 🙂
The really amazing thing is, when you pay to have this done (yes, this is a business/money raiser) they fill the whole front yard SOLID with the these pink plastic beauties so when the person wakes up in the morning….SURPRISE! Hehehehe!
He’s beautiful! I gotta add, though, I love the flamingo! LOL!
That was a topic of debate/discussion in our household for several years and, finally, I/we saw them on sale at a local Menard’s home improvement center. I brought up the possible purchase once more and was met with…..no comment. Taking this as a “yes” I picked up 2 of the pink beauties! The next week I decided to push the issue and pick up 2 more (the first ones were lonely???). Anyhow, I really like them….especially this year when my flowers have done so poorly in this heat and drought!
LOL! I had a neighbor when we first moved in who was a freak about keeping his yard perfect… That was the year my husband and I had a running joke about getting plastic flamingos just to annoy him! They make me chuckle…
“Flocking” was something I first heard about some years back when some University of MN @ Dutluth would fill a yard, overnight, with the plastic critters. Since then, I’ve seen it elsewhere, too,….http://www.gotflamingoed.com/Flamingo_Flocking.shtml I have been fascinated ever since. This is just a very small attempt!!!! Heheh!
That is tooo funny! I love it!
Oh, I love it! It is perfect for the midwestern summers! ~Jeanne
That is exactly my thought! Absolutely “Midwest”!!!!!
I’ve been waiting to hear about the arrival of your little boy with fireflies. Looks like you’ve given him a beautiful home. Now, you must share the story of his journey here and why it took him three weeks to arrive.
Also, tonight my 8-year-old niece, who is in the process of moving from West Virginia to Grand Forks with her family, was at my house, catching fireflies.
Story shared (check today’s post)! This heat/humidity is really making these little flying “embers” bright!
I love the boy with the jar = where did you find him?
Karen
Ah, Karen, the statue is available through True Value Hardware stores. Check out the site here: http://www.truevalue.com/product/Solar-LED-Accent-Light-Antique-Bronze-Lightning-Bug-Boy/37309.uts I ordered it through our local store. It took about 3 weeks, or so. If you check out the link (in the post) to Audrey’s blog, you will see how I found out about it!
I love the story behind the boy with the lightning bugs. The bugs aren’t as prevalent in New England as they were when I was a child!
Really! I have noticed that, with this heat, they are so bright just after the sun goes down and it first gets dark. There are lots of pine trees near our house and the fireflies appear even brighter with them as a backdrop! We had them when we lived in the St. Paul/Minneapolis area growing up but these are so large and beautiful!
Adorable statue and don’t you just love what geraniums do for perking up a space?
Yes, those flowers seem to be the only ones, along with a few petunias, that are surviving this drought! Geraniums are such a spark of color!!!!
