Oh my!! I didn’t think I’ve been out of circulation that long! No WiFi access for the last few days (8 days…..really??) and, well, let’s say sewing hasn’t been one of the things on the “agenda”! Yup, moved our little mobile abode back to Pettibone RV Resort for the rest of the summer season. The nice thing is it’s so close to home that things can get done there and the ‘get-away’ is easily done, also! Spent a ‘ton’ of time on the river last weekend and the weather was perfect! Not much river traffic either, which was a huge surprise! Barge traffic came to a total halt as a fully loaded batch of barges (15) plus pusher (tug?) got caught sideways blocking the channel completely. Low water levels have taken its toll. 8′ of water in the channel and the barges need 10′ minimum. Managed to make national news even! Our boating tours were much quieter and very enjoyable. The many boat houses (really, “cabins on the water”) were bustling with weekend/summer inhabitants and definitely had the party goin’ on!! The DNR has a moratorium on these types of river structures so when one comes up for sale it’s a seller’s market and the waiting list of buyers is unbelievably long! Each little place has such a unique personality, from the most humble to the very outrageous! Makes for a very pleasurable outing, especially since a great many of our local town’s inhabitants are proud owners of these floating get-aways.
Last week I had the super pleasant surprise of finding out that Marsha, over at Quilter in Motion has chosen me (along with 2 others) to receive one of her very cool pin cushions!! Yippee for me!-D You absolutely must pop over to her place and check out her site…..wonderful quilt ideas, patterns, tutes, and hints, plus, recipes and really fun life sharings! These days (maybe it has a little to do with the Olympics!?!) I have really embraced all things patriotic! So many wonderful privileges and blessings come with being a citizen of this great free country that has experienced such sad events recently. With such freedom come great responsibility, not to be taken for granted nor abused. I pray, that we all treasure it for the rare and precious commodity that it is!! I, now, step down from my red, white and blue soap box…until next time……..
Looks like you are having a wonderful holiday Doreen. Long time, no see! Congratulations on the prize! Avis x
Spending quite a bit of time at the RV….with it so close to home (25 miles) we ‘pop’ back and forth! Really lovin’ it!!
Great post, Doreen! Adorable quilt too!!!
That little quilt (14″ sq.) was fun to make….something I don’t normally do….nice to change up sometimes!
Looks like you are having a wonderful holiday, glad to also know where you’ve been. Cute pin cushion too.
It is, and has been, such a wonderful change of pace. I purposely left my small sewing machine at home and only have some handwork along……cutting/basting some hexies for a future grandmother’s flower garden quilt…..size to be determined! Hehe!
Hi Doreen, great to see you posting again. You look so relaxed sitting in the shade. Those little cabins are wonderful. What a perfect place to chill out and enjoy the mid week peace. 🙂
I just love the pin cushions and will certainly be taking look at Marsha’s blog. I think the Olympic national pride has rubbed off on many countries. In the UK the flags are flying and the conversation is mostly about the Olympics. At knitting group on Tuesday night a lady was knitting a Union Jack Flag, it was quite amazing. She has already knitted flag cushions.
Wow…..that is so neat! Here, the Olympics has pretty well dominated even at a time when some local tragedies have occurred! Some of the game participants go through such hardships to get to that level…..and at such young ages!
Well, I was wondering why the absence in writing. Now I know. Sounds like you’ve been having an enjoyable time on the water and camping.
Where, exactly, are those boathouses located? They sound colorful and interesting and great potential for a story. You ought to photography some up close and show us, maybe even take us inside one if you know one of the owners. Hint, hint.
The location of the boathouses that I photographed are in the area of Brownsville,MN, but such things are common all along the river. We do know some who own such structures but they are there on weekends and that is the time we are less on the river and more in the campground. We really haven’t gotten into (and won’t get into) the weekend-at-the-river lifestyle (major party from Friday nite to Sunday afternoon/eve!). Will see what I can rustle up for a story…….
Thank you, Doreen, for the very kind words. I’m glad you received your pincushion and apologize again for having so many projects to finish that I put off the final stitches on the R/W/B heart pincushions! Your new summer location sounds so wonderful! Do you have a boat yourselves? Nice place to be I’m sure and I know you will make the most of it!
Our DS & DIL (who live up the drive way from our home) have an RV 3 ‘spots’ away from ours and on the channel where they keep THEIR boat (we are frequent riders in that vessel!!). They have embraced the weekend river life and we have embraced the weekDAY river life (everyone is at work!!!!)!!! LOL! Use the time to work on my hexies….great hand work!
What a lovely time it looks like you’re having! Summer is such a relaxing time!
Yes it is and I truly feel blessed to have such a beautiful ‘retreat’ but I do have quilty itchy fingers;-) I do have a tote there filled with the necessary tools to cut/sew hexies for a future flower garden quilt!! Just one hexie at a time!!
I started one of those eons ago and will probably get back to it this fall…
DH asked if it was going to be a KING size quilt!!! Good thing he was smiling broadly when he asked!!!
Can you imagine? Especially when they did it by lantern or candlelight back in the day?!
I would be blind after that attempt!! The hexies are the smaller 1″ size. I chose this to use some of those smaller scraps I have lurking in my sewing room!
Yeah, me too! I always have to have bright light!
More so now?-b
We don’t need to talk about it. LOL!
I agree;-)
You look so relaxed! Enjoy it!!! I’m back to work again. Summer is over too soon. 😦
Summer goes so quickly and we wait thru those “white months” and work at relaxing!!!!!! Go figure! LOL!
You look comfortable! I think this is exactly where you are supposed to be – enjoying the rest of summer! Enjoy!
Will do!-D
your outside chairs look just like my outside chairs – or some of them anyhow. I bet you had fun – we will be in our motorhome in another month for a little bit – looking forward to it.
Karen
The really nice thing about this place is we are able to be there during the week, a few days at a time or all week, when everyone else is back at home working! It is so quiet and peaceful! We, then, can choose if we want to go there on the weekend (when our DS and DIL are there in their RV a couple of ‘doors’ down from our place!) when it really gets ‘hopping’!
