A month ago, when a few quilter friends and I did a mini-shop-hop, I purchased a Stonehenge (Northcott) panel with the idea of using it for a micro-stippling demo on the 29th of this month. The longer I looked at it the more it reminded me of a stained glass window. While shopping at Debbie’s Quilt Shop in Osage, IA, I found the perfect fabrics to surround the panel and bring out the effect I was after. See if you agree…………… It will have the black as a binding, also. Not sure where the stippling will “land” but there are plenty of possibilities!!!! I had thought of just doing the black as backing but, while at Hancock Fabrics last Saturday, I picked up some of “Alexander’s Flower Blenders” by M’Liss (Rae Lawry)….it just “spoke” to me! LOL! So this is what it will be……….

Ooooooooo!!! I love this! I’m anxious to see how you quilt it. I love the backing fabric. It’s perfect and almost too pretty for the back. I hope you have extra to put it on the front of something!
Actually, I wasn’t able to get any more of it! It’s a new pattern from M’Liss Rae Hawley for Hancock Fabrics (http://www.hancockfabrics.com/M-Liss-Flower-Blenders-Black-Cotton-Fabric-M-Liss-Collection_stcVVproductId149729935VVcatId550095VVviewprod.htm ) It really is nice quality and I did get it for the lower price!
I haven’t started on that piece yet. Am waiting on the HQ machine. I thought that would be the perfect piece to get “broken in” on!!!!
Gorgeous panel. I like what you’re doing with it.
Thank you so much for the encouragement. Sometimes my “head vision/version” doesn’t translate very well! LOL!
Fabulous fabrics Doreen. I really love the backing. The whole thing will be amazing when you have stippled it. Look forward to seeing the finished article. The panel is perfectly set off by the coloured fabrics around it. 🙂
Thank you so much;-) The panel is the centerpiece of a larger wallhanging the “Stonehenge”/Northcott Mills people had put together for this line of fabrics. Although I really love the prints, they are more on the neutral palette and I thought it needed some “punch” to set it off. Will definitely be following with pics in the coming days………..
What a gorgeous panel – and I love the colors you chose to put around it. The backing fabric is perfect.
I love it when I “stumble upon” the perfect solution!! So takes the “stress” out of the whole thing…hehe!
Here’s how little I know about quilting. What is stippling? And, yes, I do think this looks like a stained glass window. Be sure to show us the finished product.
Not a problem……check out these posts:https://treadlemusic.wordpress.com/2012/04/21/its-saturday-and/ and https://treadlemusic.wordpress.com/2012/04/11/finally-finished/ you will see that there are “poofy” areas of fabric and flattened/textured portions. These last areas have very tiny “squiggles” in them and this is ‘micro-stippling’. A larger version may be referred to as ‘meandering’ and look similar in configuration to puzzle pieces. Hope this helps.
Ah, now I get it. Thank you for directing me to these posts and an explanation. My goodness you are talented.
DH observed that possibly I was in need of some type of ‘help’ after he watched the micro-stippling process! LOL!
I love this print and I think its a great choice.
Now to see what texturizing/quilting I can come up with!! Such fun! Great to have you stop by!!! Hugs……
love that backing choice!
The gal at Hancocks said it’s a new line they had just gotten in. Really has a nice variety of colors for blending and the regular price is $7.99/yd….not bad. The fabric seems to be of very good quality, too!!!!
I really love the stained glass look! I can’t wait to see how you stipple it… Quilting is something that always scares me a little, but it’s getting easier!
Ruth, You do so well! A “blank canvas” has always intimidated me, also (painting….watercolor/acrylics/oil), same as a top just waiting for the ‘bolt of lightening’ inspiration to hit! Never does……just have to do that first brush stroke or start up the machine and just do it!! I do admit it’s a bit easier with the thread cuz “unsewing” is definitely a better deal than a brush/paint mistroke!LOL!
Too true!
