Join the chorus….”Where has the summer gone???”…….

Yes, I hear it…..ringing through the last of the summer’s warm madness!!! Autumn is here…..the sumac is brilliant red, the corn is turning as are the leaves in the surrounding hardwood forest. Alas, the daylight hours have shortened and there is much to be accomplished before I/we shift into our cold weather/snow phase (no! we do NOT live anywhere near Western South Dakota…..thankfully!).

This past weekend (Friday and Saturday) was spent in Spring Grove at our guild’s “Festival of Quilts”. There were quilts beautifully displayed (and some 80 of them were for sale!), 4 quilt shop vendors, sewing demos (me on my Juki doing micro-stippling…..which still fascinates many!….and on a Baby Lock Tiara {twin sis of my HQ Sweet Sixteen} sharing the many merits of a sit-down midarm machine), a special speaker (Sandi Irish of Irish Chain Quilt Design). Sandi not only presented a wonderful trunk show of her designs and patterns/quilts but brought along an ample vendor display! Some of the local Amish gals were on site selling their wonderful handmade baskets and baked goods…..yum!

Following is a photo “walk-through” of the event. The quilts on the perimeter walls were for display only and the pieces in the center frames were all for sale……….Festival of Quilts 2013 007Festival of Quilts 2013 006Festival of Quilts 2013 010Festival of Quilts 2013 011Festival of Quilts 2013 009Festival of Quilts 2013 002

Thanks for sharing the pics of the lovely quilts. I always like to see what other ladies are doing in other parts of the world. Yes, autumn is here and must agree, the early nights makes one ready for bed early!! We still have mosquitos – even with cooler temps, they are still out and about. Thanks again.

    • treadlemusic says:

Mosquitoes are certainly adaptable!!! I think I would rather have them than the Asian Beetles/Boxelder bugs that plague us these days!!! A beautiful Fall morning here!! Thanks so much for your visit! Hugs…..

  7. What a fabulous weekend! Wish I could have joined you.

    • treadlemusic says:

It was so impressive! There are so many talented gals in this area (and everywhere!) and shows like this one give the opportunity to see what has been accomplished. Fun to have that many vendors under one roof, also!!!!

Hi Doreen! Thank you for a wonderful post! I miss so much all kind of quilt events etc. because I’m so totally out of everything here far away. Thanks you to dear friend I can see those fantastic quilt!
We have lovely autumn with sunny and warm weather! Hugs! x Teje

Our days have been marred by the bugs that seem to love these awesome days, also! Very sad. Years ago, some Asian Beetles (look like lady bugs) were imported to take care of an aphid problem on crops. The beetles didn’t help and there aren’t any predators that eat such bugs so they have been moving from the southeast US across the states and a few years ago made it to us. They swarm the air to the point that you can’t be outside. They land on you and “bite”/pinch in huge numbers. It’s kinda like a horror movie!!! Such a shame. I’m so glad you liked my post. I’ll be posting more photos in the future. Hugs to you, sweet friend……

      • Teje says:

Oh Doreen, that’s sounds terrible. Here we have only few mosqitoes which may bother when sitting outside in the evening. In Finland there are lots of mosqitoes and they can make you ‘grazy’. Can you do anything to keep them away (smoke, something for the skin)?

        • treadlemusic says:

There have been many suggestions but none that prove successful (not even a little!!!). The flying little “beasties” just fill the air until a severe frost puts them out of commission. Booooooo………..

  9. These quilts are absolutely stunning. Works of art. Hours of loving labor. Looks like a must-see. And Amish women there, too. Bonus.

I am feeling the same as you about summer vanishing into fall. I love fall. But I do not like the dark intruding so early in the evening.

    • treadlemusic says:

And I so love the early sunrises! We have been inundated with bugs….Asian beetles and boxelder bugs….ugh!!!!! Can’t even be outside in the afternoons. As much as I hate to say it…….I hope we get some type of freeze (sorry!). The quilts were amazing!! Such talent!!

  10. Beth Ann says:

Beautiful! I would have loved to have been there just to soak it all in. It looked like it was a fabulous event!

  11. Michele says:

    So pretty. Thanks for sharing.

  12. Fiona says:

  13. Thank you for sharing these wonderful pictures with us. What a variety in patterns and colour, yum!!!

  14. Karen says:

some of those prices on the quilts sure are low! such a variety of prices – I think no one ever really knows how to price – I always have a hard time with that.

    • treadlemusic says:

Yes, I/we noticed the pricing range, too. I know that some of the gals really wanted to sell so the price was low (which frustrated some/me and kinda goofed things up for others). The only prices that were “fair”, or closer to fair, were the upper end $$$. All the quilts were made from top quality materials, which added to this situation!!!! Underpricing in order to make a sale is the reason I don’t sell the things I make but rather give them as gifts.

  15. mtetar says:

Work of art they are! Absolutely beautiful. Blessings, Mtetar

    • treadlemusic says:

Each one was so nice. There was so much to look at and I really didn’t have adequate time to really look closely. Several of the quilts sold. I think the people attending really enjoyed themselves.

      • mtetar says:

I am sure they did the quilts are worth it. I like quilts and always wanted one not made by me. If I could afford one now I would treat myself for my special day in December. Blessings, Mtetar
