The 2nd of two…..

QOV (quilt of valor) completions!!! Sandwiched it this morning……..kinda slow on the uptake today! The coffee at breakfast took a titch longer (to drink-not to make!)……I expect that in the next few days we will keep the coffee at the ready! Our temps are going to be crazy for the next week to the point that our governor (Mark Dayton, MN) has closed the schools on Monday!!!!! Anyhow…….back to quilting!! The pattern for this one is from a workshop I did last April called “Disappearing 4-patch with a Twist” and can be found here and here and here and here (with the pattern link). To help with the idea of pin-wheel movement, I stitched it with a swirl.QOV #2 002

Thanks, once again, to my trusty Quilt Holder (a.k.a. DH). The size is a nice lap quilt: 50”x 60”. The backing is muslin………..QOV #2 003

QOV #2 004

I used Connecting Threads Essential Pro Poly thread in the top and bobbin. The color is “Turkey Red”.

Tomorrow is ‘pack up the decorations’ day. The temps are supposed to be “reasonable” so bringing the totes in from the garage is possible. Tear it down/pack it up/take it out! Then on to the next quilt!!!!!

Til next time…….stay warm…..stay safe……………

What a rich backing can be used on very special occasions and days. Great Job as always Doreen. Blessings, Mtetar

Tonight’s low is 3 degrees and a nice quilt would be useful. Blessings, Mtetar

it was a first for our daughter in WI too – said they cancelled school already for Monday which they never do – what is it supposed to be something like windchill -40? she thought something like that – crazy! neat quilting. How do you like the Connecting Thread essential thread – I like it – builds up lint but I need to keep the machine clean anyhow so just clean out the lint when I oil

  5. Stay warm, Doreen. And keep that coffee brewing.

  6. JoAnn says:

    Love the stitching.

  7. Something to aspire to… my first thoughts are always I can’t believe you do that free motion. Then I remember your “paying your dues” comment, and know about the practice thing, so you’ve given me hope that if I survive all my awful I will someday be able to do that too. Thanks for the swirls idea, may go try it on my pinwheels. Haven’t been satisfied with anything else and was clueless where else to go. They won’t look like that though i’m sure. Have fun packing decorations, and stay safe in your weather. yes, there are complaints in the air here because our high is in the 30’s LOL. we will get teens again Monday they say. Enjoy.

It is minus 4 this morning. Too cold outside for man or beast.

I know!!!! And we’re going to look at this as a WARM temp in a few hours!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Gotta find our out-door cat and bring him inside for a few days………THAT will be a challenge!!!!!!! LOL!

  9. Jeanne says:

Great looking quilt – I love the pattern and the wonderful quilting! The spirals are perfect for the quilt. Stay warm – we are headed home on Monday and may need to alter our route/plans due to the storm.

  10. witchylin says:

Those swirls set off the quilt top so well Doreen. I like the idea of a coloured thread on the white back too. Practice is the only way to achieve the desired effect and your work shows it is worth doing samples.
Hope you keep warm. Run very fast in and out of the garage so the icy blasts miss you. I took my decorations down yesterday and went up into our cold loft to put them all away. Our temperatures are nothing like yours, in fact today is wet but not too cold. Have a good quilting day. Hugs……..

We woke up to 31F!!!!!! Total surprise!!! It’s 29F and falling now AND the winds are awful. DH just restocked our wood pile in the shed with the woodstove/boiler. Guess we’re as ready as can be (other than bringing our cat in…..if we can find him!!!!!).

This non-quilter thinks this one is just wonderful … love everything about it! Stay warm under those quilts!

  12. Lynda says:

What a fun pattern, Doreen, love the stitching too! I am no good at machine quilting yet.

  13. Quilt looks great Doreen! Stay warm (I won’t tell you we had a beautiful balmy 28 degrees C yesterday – mind you it’s only going to be 19 today, but much warmer than you!!)

    • treadlemusic says:

I hold that thought closely. Our home is nice and cozy warm (I give thanks for such). Baking bread and quilting today and tomorrow (temps to be the same tonight and tomorrow morning.). Summer dreams here!!!!!! LOL!

Well it’s January 6th and as usual, I’m late reviewing the blog. Ugh…not a good way to start the new year. Love the block and yes, I do remember it from earlier post. Job well done. Love the circular quilting – interesting. Looking forward to more….yikes going to 13 here tonight so I’m sure you are a wee bit colder! Stay warm.

    • treadlemusic says:

So glad you’re able to do a bit of “catch-up”!!! It’s already -12 on its way to another -20…..sigh!!!!! Looks like a lot of places remaining closed tomorrow…..schools, colleges, etc…….. Be safe…..Hugs…….
