Yes, the “Carnation Quilt” is finally ready to be used!!! This quilt has been somewhat “in process” for way too long. I had already made a smaller version as a gift for DIL a few years ago. Some of my previous posts can be found here, here, and here. It washed/dried beautifully! Here are the final photos (they really don’t do it justice…no surprise!)………….
And the final photo, where it has found its home…………. As you may be able to tell, our bed is a “full”/double size…not super large at all. After washing & drying, the quilt measures 76”x84”….perfect size (w/ a bedskirt). I did use a wool batt in this quilt and this one did come out very soft and “drapey”. Sulky rayon thread, in pink or green, was used on the top and Connecting Threads Essential Pro poly was used in the bobbin. The batting is by Hobbs. Usually, I use Hobbs 80/20 (cotton/poly) batting but I wanted something that was lighter weight but just as warm. The darker pink fabric for the binding was in my stash!!!!!! Yup! I couldn’t believe it…….a perfect match!!!! Most of the squares were from several charm packs of Moda “Half Moon” line and the darker green border is a Stonehenge by Northcott fabric.
Off to check my stack of “next-up” projects…………………
This quilt is so beautiful and I love your quilting! Its just amazing. I love wool batting too. Sulky Rayon threads are my favorite! The bigger ones are better!
I have been going back and forth between the Sulky rayon and the Isacord poly. The colors and shine really set off the quilting nicely, don’t they?? So great you dropped by!!!! Hugs………………………
Yes, I love Sulky Rayon. I have tried many from Isacord to superior threads…So Fine#50. But Sulky is what works for me in my home machine.
I am so glad that you have that!!! I just picked up some more yesterday at Hancock Fabric/Crafts. I’m not sure how popular it is as there always seems to be ample supply of all the colors but I do love it and so does my machine!!!! Hugs…………………..
I love the colors and the addition of the carnations. Nicely done.
Thanks, Friend! Wishing you sweet Spring breezes…..soon!!!!!!! Hugs……………..
I am so pleased you went for the deeper pink binding. What an added bonus of having it in your stash. We should always look in the stash but often don’t bother, because we think we can remember what is in there. No chance! It certainly does look great on your bed.
I think it really adds to the “romantic” feel, too!!!! The walls are the same color pink/lite raspberry as is in the quilt……it was planned. Yup, a well appointed stash is a good thing!!! LOL!
Gorgeous!!
Thanks so much!!!! Blessings……………….
Your quilt is beautiful!!! I’m loving the color combinations.
One of my (recent) goals has been to branch out a bit and try some different color combos and I must say I’m liking this direction!!! I’m glad you like it, too!!!! Hugs……
The quilt is so sophisticated! It is perfect for a couple: not too femine and not too masculine, fabulous mix!
Esther
Love that assessment!!! DH really likes it, too, so you are exactly correct!!!!!! Hugs……
Oh I know that feeling with hubby hogging the bed! We got a king size bed several years ago and sometimes it still isn’t big enough. lol…love the finished product and happy you found something in your stash that works! That’s always an added bonus.
A stash is a good thing to have (oops! Well, I know I will not live long enough to totally eliminate it!!!! LOL!).
that is about the same size as our camper bed and it works on the road but at home I need more space as is hubby takes up 2/3’s of the bed! I tolerate a smaller bed when traveling – quilt is cute
LOL! Our new camper has a queen size bed!!! It will be an easy adjustment I think!!!!
It looks even more beautiful on your bed. BTW, my hubby and I have only a full-sized bed, too. No room for a larger one in our bedroom. So we’re always nice and cozy.
Yay!!! Another “alike” for us!!!!!! As you may be able to see, our room is quite ‘mini’, also!!!!
Gorgeous! I really love the appliquéd flowers on it.
Thanks so much!!! Those flowers have many memories stored up in them and I was so glad to be able to find a way to save them…in a practical way!!!!
It’s beautiful 🙂
Thanks, Debby…….hugs……….
Lovely I must say. Blessings, Mtetar
Thank you so much! ;-b
The carnation quilt is fabulous! I love how that stash fabric finished this one off so perfectly. Lovely.
I had said to DH, when I had just added that binding fabric need to my shopping list, maybe I should check my ‘stash’ first……..and we both laughed! …………………
