UFO #1…….a Finish!!!!!!

This is one of two tops that have been pushed to the “back burner” over the past couple of months…….and now, I’m happy to share, there’s one less! I first posted about the fabric here. The photo ‘evidence’ of completion………..001  The stitching motif (which is impossible to get a good shot of) is a flower/leaf with very simple stitching in the green border (just to give weary eyes some rest!).

A view of the backing………………………………….003

A couple more to complete the ‘show’………007

The morning showers has finished and I thought a quick outdoor photo would be possible………well, a lovely breeze came up and…..well…….you kinda get the idea….hmmmmm?

I used Rheingold metallic-like poly, 40 wt, (carried by Madeira) for the top thread and Connecting Threads Essential Pro poly, 70 wt, in the bobbin. For the green border I switched to an Isacord green.

So that’s some of what’s been happenin’ here. Our RV is still not on it’s site in the campground…….we’re hoping that next week will be dry enough. Also, my little notebook/’puter had some pretty major ailments this week and sorta ‘crashed’……insert very unhappy face here!!!……… (hardware stuff!) and is in for a makeover. Thankfully, I/we had just backed everything up on “Carbonite” cuz there’s a really good chance that all will be erased if the fix is possible.

OK…….I think I’ll start on the next UFO. I do hope you’ll stop back for a visit……..I really love having you drop by! Til next time……………………………..

Gorgeous!!!! Just gorgeous. How did you learn… how did you get started?

    • treadlemusic says:

Books, YouTube videos and the blogs I read (“bloggy friends” are awesome!!!!!) AND practice, practice, practice. When I started getting interested in this (back in the early 70s) there weren’t the quilt shops and local ppl who could help so, being a reader, books were my huge resource (I didn’t know of a soul who did this kind of sewing!!!). Fast forward to about 3 yrs ago and the machine piecing & quilting ‘thing’ became a more full-time obsession when I retired. Art was my college (unfinished) major so textiles became the art form I chose. Sharing this with others has become a recent passion that I’m thoroughly enjoying!!!!
I hope that wasn’t too lengthy!!!! But I am so glad you asked…………Hugs……….Doreen

Love that quilt!!!! Thanks for stopping by…. Hope you are keeping yourself busy – I know you are! I will try to write you back later this week re: book!

    • treadlemusic says:

The days are flying by, but I really don’t remember a time when they didn’t!!! Have an awesome week and hugs for all coming your way………………SSAB

  3. Michele says:

Nice. Very nice! Sorry for the puter issues and thank goodness for backups!

    • treadlemusic says:

Thanks so much! And, yes, I’m glad the timing was good, now just waiting to hear if there was a successful repair. Uber hugs coming your way…………………………

  4. LB says:

Great colors! The photo of the quilt amongst the flowers is wonderful!
    Ugh! Computer problems!
(thanks for the reminder to back up … I realized when reading this that it has been over a week!).

    • treadlemusic says:

I am glad that my situation has served as a reminder to so many to take care of that housekeeping chore. I have gotten a tad “paranoid” and had my backup set for ‘constant’………for me, even a week is really not enough. That flower/quilt photo is my fave, too. The begonia flowers are the perfect match! So glad to have you stop in!!! Hugs to you…………………….

  5. Thread crazy says:

Love the quilt Doreen – yes, the good Lord knows who will one day need that bright, cheerful and energetic quilt. Your quilts is beautiful also – always is!! Like the motif in the green border; I have one similar that I like to use in borders also.
Glad the rain has stopped your way; we had a bit a couple of weeks ago but with 100 degree days the grass is already getting a bit crispy. Hopefully this next week we’ll get a bit.
Thanks for reminder on update as I need to do so also. My other laptop bit the dust between 2-3 years old, so this time I purchased a cheaper one and so far…thankfully, it’s hanging in there. Where would we be without them! Stay dry and sending “hugs” to you too!

    • treadlemusic says:

Thank you so much for the hugs…….I truly treasure them!!! I think the roller coaster weather has many guessing. Next week is supposed to be much cooler than ‘normal’ (forecasters are referring to it as “Fall-like”!!!! EEK!!!!!).
This quilt pattern has been a good one. I need to do it in totally “low volume” colors next…..that way I can stitch feathers all over it!!!!!! LOL!!!! Hugs back at ya……………..

  6. Amazing how these busy designs all work together so well. And I love how you photographed the finished quilt with your begonias (right?).

    • treadlemusic says:

Yup, begonias…..the little wire chair (meant to hold a pot of flowers and has become totally hidden by this, now, giant of a plant!) that they are setting in are both Mother’s Day gifts this year. It hasn’t stopped blooming yet…..perfect weather for begonias this year—-lot of moisture!!!!
Glad you like the quilt. I knew the prints would all go together (each having a common color) but until it was totally finished I didn’t realize how really bright and energetic it is!!!! Will be good viewing on dreary Monday mornings!!!!!! LOL!!!! Hugs………………..

  7. Anita says:

I love the colors…hope to see it at quilting!

  8. KerryCan says:

Good for you!! Finishing is always such a thrill (I should try it more often!) The fabrics are beautiful–from the photos they seem to have a slightly faded, vintage look!

    • treadlemusic says:

The photos really don’t do it justice. I think there’s color over-load for my point and shoot camera. They are more bright than really showed up in the pix. And, yes, finishing is something I’m not necessarily good at. I’ve been told I’m “process oriented” which would explain my life thus far!!! LOL< LOL!!!!!!! Hugs…………

  9. witchylin says:

Those are colours I would never have bought, but after seeing the lovely quilt you have made with them I’ll have to rethink. Reds and yellows together were not something I fancied however I love the look of the quilt and the backing too. You have opened up a new spectrum of colours for me. Thank you Doreen.

    • treadlemusic says:

They are not my thing, either…….or so I thought! The dark green border was needed to “settle things down” a bit and cool off!! LOL!!!!!! Definitely out of my “norm”!!!!!

  10. gijane279-Liz says:

Hi I found your blog! Sounds like you have an abundance of rain, wish we had some here we’re in a drought. Hugs from SoCal. Liz

  11. Very pretty fabrics — sort of French Provincial feel.

Note to self: back up the computer hard drive this weekend…

    • treadlemusic says:

Oh you must do a back up!!! I have been asking DH about various ways for weeks and finally got it done……it took 2 PLUS DAYS!!!!!!!!! Yes!!!! That is what I said……I couldn’t believe it but the amount of info/files were enormous—-lots of photos!
The fabrics aren’t my “norm” but I was so fed up with cloudy days that they all appealed to me!!!!
Hope the water hasn’t damaged your area!!!!!! Hugs….

      • Thanks as always for the hugs! No water damage right here but there is some “in town” along the river. Mostly just $$ trying to get ready. We lost a number of university buildings in 2008 and still haven’t fully recovered.

Jim backs up the computers about once a month, and I think it’s time again. But always a good reminder.

        • treadlemusic says:

I have the settings so that it does a constant back-up. I feel a bit more comfortable with that.
Glad to ‘hear’ you’re ok. Dreary weather today but nothing serious!!! Have a great day…………………

  12. Yay you! Great finish. Hope your computer is home from “hospital” soon.

    • treadlemusic says:

Ya know…..This technology has become such an integral part of my life/routine!!! Yikes!!! It’s a good thing that I/we have other options in the house for these situations. I do hope the $$$ are reasonable…..I’ve only had this ‘notebook’ for around 2 years and I really like it!! Sigh……………
I am really liking this finish, too. I think this one will be a donation quilt…….the Lord knows who will need this sometime in the future. I’m thrilled you stopped by for a brief chat! Hugs……………………….

  13. mtetar says:

Oh what a beauty showing quality time spent. I won’t mind having it. Be Blessed, Mtetar

  14. Jeanne says:

I really like your quilt and the quilting! Yes, I looked hard and could make it out. Also like the quilting in the green border. Very nice! I hope you can get back to camping soon. Our days are cooler right now and I’m enjoying it. The heat and maybe the dryness is coming…

    • treadlemusic says:

I do hope for a bit less of the large amounts of rain. I think we may be getting cooler than normal temps next week which would be ok if it also dries up. The river is fast falling so we’ll see what happens next week.
I knew the stitching would be a might difficult to see with all the prints……glad you could make it out!!!! Hope Ray is mending and your summer is enjoyable. Hugs………………….

  15. Joanie says:

Lovey, lovely quilt! It has all my favorite colors!

    • treadlemusic says:

Really! It was fun to put together and the 2nd one I’ve done from this pattern (Take 5 “Teacher’s Pet”). I’m so glad you enjoyed seeing it!!!! Blessings………………………

  16. carla bynum says:

Hi!!! Your quilt is lovely!!!!! I love the quilting you did too!!!!! Hope the rain lets up for you soon!!!!

    • treadlemusic says:

I think we’re all getting a tad “moldy”….LOL! I think the weather has shifted a bit for this area and the rains have become more “normal” showers rather than a deluge!!! I’m so glad you “popped” in!!! Come back again…….hugs….Doreen
