Design Wall Monday…………………

And UFOs (Unfinished Objects) resurrected from the dark recesses of my room!!! These ‘friendship’ blocks were made for me 30+ years ago by the, then, members of the small local quilt group that is still going strong. ‘Friendship’ blocks are ones that are requested by a member of the group……the pattern may be a specific one (copies provided) or a theme suggested. Each member makes up 1 quilt block (following any requested guidelines, such as block size/fabric colors, etc) and signs the block. When this particular group was still in its infancy, we each did such a project for the membership. Some were baby quilt themed and those recipients are young adults today!!!! Anyhow, here are my blocks and the sashing/border fabric I’m auditioning to finish it……………….001

There is one more block plus a block I made that will be incorporated into the pieced back. The challenge was to find fabrics that were from that “era” that would complete the feel of this piecing. The small country floral I found for the sashing/first border is extremely limited in supply (I will find out shortly if it’s enough!) and the pin dot/outer border piece is large enough for the border and the backing and echoes some of the fabric used in the blocks. Sometimes it’s a “good thing” that I don’t throw anything away, as these completion fabrics are as old as the blocks!!!!!

Now, onward to see how this all comes together………………

Love the blocks – pinwheels and stars just make a quilt. Anxious to see it completed.

Isn’t it interesting how color combinations go in and out of style? Those blocks really remind me how popular peach and blue were for awhile! It’s great that you’re finishing this!
