A Farewell………………

To the (somewhat) long-term UFO “Cardinal Quilt”. I’m still not sure why this one felt like it took so much time to complete but I know that this quilt didn’t seem in any hurry to speak to me (that’s my story and I’m gonna stick to it for now). For those who joined this trek a bit late you may catch up here, here, here, & here. There are more posts (if you put “Cardinal Quilt” in the ‘Search’ field on the right side bar) that will take you back to this quilt’s “birth” but for that trek I’m sure a pot of coffee or tea will be needed!

Anyhow, I had vowed…..and this was a ‘tough-y’…..that I would not start my day/get out of my jammies until the binding was completed, so………………..003a photo of me in my “nest” is appropriate for the finish of a quilt with the theme of ‘cardinals’, hmmmm???

Some photos of the finish……………..009

It was difficult to get the color accurate and get the texture shots I wanted. It finished 60”x 62”….a nice size. The batting is Hobbs 80/20 (love this and use it almost exclusively!).

Threads used: Top: Sulky Viscose Rayon & Superior Meallic Variegated Gold, #025. Bobbin thread: Connecting Threads Essential Pro poly (70wt…love it! No/low lint!!).

The quilt center is 2 cardinal repeats plus a half (which gave me the 4 outer corner stones.

Because of the dense quilting, this quilt is much heavier than others I’ve done of this size. Very interesting.

Thanks so much for all your visits and kindly bearing with the multiple posts. Now, on to see what lies ahead…….

    Rosemary B here:
This is beautiful. I followed along pretty much and I am so glad you finally finished it.
    I love the colors. Perfect.

The colors are those that I seem to go after whether it’s in my home dec or clothing or…….. My stash contains a lot of the cranberry/wine/turkey red and dark hunter green and the fabrics that I like with them. I’m glad you didn’t weary of the trek!!! Hugs to you, dear determined friend!!!!!

  2. Well done Doreen! I love the pic of you binding!! It’s all ready for next Christmas now…….

    • treadlemusic says:

It is but I know it will remain in my living room (which contains those colors) ’til the winter birds/Cardinals leave nearer to Spring!!! The richness of the colors don’t really come through in those photos! I am glad you like it!!!!

It’s stunning. No… wait. What word is better than “stunning” ??? Whatever that word is, that’s it!!!!

I am so pleased to see the finished Cardinal Quilt, having read through the trials and tribulations of it since the start. I love it what more can I say, other than it speaks to me now. You look so relaxed hand sewing the binding in such a lovely spot. The living room is the place for the quilt until the late spring when the room will no doubt receive a sunny lift from another of your amazing quilts.
Congratulations on a job very well done. 🙂

Looking at it now as it hangs in my living room, it so fits the wintry season but I’m so ready to move on to something gentler and less intense (the next season….Spring!!!!! LOL!). I’m really glad this is one that appeals!!!! Hugs…………………..

  7. Oh, I love that photo of you looking quite content and warm and snugged in your nest.

The quilt turned out beautifully, despite the challenges.

You’re done!! Woohoo! And it looks amazing, well worth any number of days of working in your jammies!

From the beginning, I fell in love with the quilt as I love cardinals and just loved the fabric colors. Tis beautiful Doreen! You did a beautiful piecing job and your quilting is spectacular!

  11. OMG I love everything about this quilt Doreen. Of course I love the fabric – but the quilting is just phenomenal. What a fantastic array of beautifully quilted motifs. Thanks for sharing with everyone – so beautiful.

It really changed from a somewhat “plain” panel/whole cloth to a finish with a lot more “life” to it. The cranberry/wine color is one that I seem to use a lot (along with forest green) and is reflected in my/our home!! I thank you for your very sweet, encouraging words! I so enjoy this art and try to encourage others in their journey into quilting and fmq. Please, stop back again. Hugs and blessings…
