Even though this is a large lap size quilt, because of the Minky plush fabric, the weight of this one is a challenge. The quilting is a bit more dense to aid in stabilizing the stretchiness of this backing. Come winter, this is going to be one cozy warm wrap!!!! As much as I would love to say that this is my quilt, it isn’t! It’s another lovely client’s quilt that I’ve had the privilege to finish….sigh…. It will be finished up this morning and ready for delivery next Monday.

In other “news”, the deer population that has begun to call our place ‘home’ has grown. It is not unusual to see up to 7 deer casually munching away a few steps from our home!
The view from our livingroom window towards our wind break and one of the reasons we have never regretted our move from the St. Paul/Minneapolis Metro area some 40+ years ago!!!!!!!

I love what you’ve done here Doreen, it’s turned out beautiful! I love doing this style of motif as well but struggle to make it this size – mine turn out very small and it would take forever on this sized quilt 🙂
And that is the huge challenge! I have no problem doing small (even “micro”) quilting but making the designs large (like on a long-arm) is more difficult. Larger designs allow the quilt to remain soft and “drapey”, whereas, the smaller/tighter motifs make for more stiffness. If you check out this post, https://treadlemusic.wordpress.com/2014/10/07/red-white-quilta-finish/ , you will see a quilt (done on my Juki/DSM) that has a large motif stitched. I did it to show it can be done on a domestic.

It’s become one of my “go to” designs…..especially when a client wants a feather feel but w/o the feather $$$$$!! LOL!

Your stitching looks so inviting. A perfect match for the minki. Yes, I’ve sewn minki before and it can be challenging. Firt time I cut it into large squares for a baby blanket. It’s great for backing and like you said…earm and cuddly.
The deer around our place are not so kind as they’ve chewed my shrubs down to just sticks.
Oh no! We’ve got the garden and other things well fenced. The lawn and windbreak are fair game!!!! The quilt was a little on the heavy side but other than that it went well! You haven’t drown yet????
I’ve never worked with Connecting Threads thread…I’d love to hear what you love about this thread, etc. Am always looking at thread and wondering about its reputation.
I use the CT Essential Pro poly on my bobbin about 95% of the time. It’s 70 wt. so the bobbin holds a lot (whether it’s my Sweet 16 or DSM/Juki) and there is very little lint, if any!!!! It “plays” well with ALL my top thread choices…..from 100 wt (Invisifil) to some of the heavier/varegated threads. That thread is very reasonable in large cones and does go on sale periodically. I have pretty much all the basic/blending colors. I would highly recommend it!!!!!!!!

I am totally in love with the effect that the stitching has had on the backing, too! The only downside to working with that fabric is it seems to “stick” to the table rather than slide which makes it a work-out to quilt on a “sit-down” machine!!!!!!
