This little 15” square “Vera” napkin (thrifted a couple of weeks ago) is now a completed little topper! Yay!! I had purchased it for a demo this past weekend at an event called UffDa Fest/Festival of Quilts. (follow the link to photos of the beginnings of this tale) A little bit was left incomplete, after Saturday, so this morning it was this……..
and this………….
With some more white thread stippling and dark blue “thread sketching” left. As always, Ms Juki behaved perfectly…………..
A couple of back shots showing the navy blue thread used to define the flowers better.
Some final texture pics………….
The backing/batting was cut away using Gingher “duck bill” Applique scissors…….
Working from the back (piece is top side down), I pulled gently on the backing/batting and cut next to the stitching I had done just inside the manufacturer’s edge stitch……………
Because of the micro-stippling right up to the edge of the piece, I won’t do anything to “seal” the cut edge….no real need to, as the super dense quilting will take care of it.
Yes, it is slightly stained from the previous user but I consider this as just adding to the “personality” of the little piece.
Top thread: (white) Isacord, 40 wt. (navy blue) Glide,40 wt. Bobbin thread: (white & navy) Connecting Threads Essential Pro poly, 70 wt.
Batting: single layer Hobbs Heirloom cotton’/poly (80/20).
Have a “quilty” day!!!!!!!!!
I can only say WOW!
Thank you so much……………….
This turned out so beautiful and I love your micro-stippling. Gorgeous.
Thank you so much!!! I just can’t be away from it for too long!!!! When I first did it (4+ years ago) I knew I liked it but went on to other styles of quilting. Now , when I return to it, I LOVE it and realize how much I miss doing it!!! I think that’s why the “vintage thing” has such a huge appeal for me. Thanks so much for stopping by my little place!!!! Happy Monday!! Hugs……..
How many layers of batting did you use…more than 1? From the one pic it looked like you used 2. I agree that leaving that finished edge of hankie alone is a must.
I used just one….80/20 (cotton/poly). I was/am super pleased with the dimension/texture!!!!
Very pretty!
Thank you, Friend……hugs…….
I connected with a friend who is going to help me get started!! I’m jumping in ……. 🙂
Welcome to the dark side!!!!!!!!
“Slightly stained from the previous user” adds to the authenticity and character.
Exactly!!!!! Once again, I knew I could count on you to be on the same page with me!!!!!!!
It’s so very gorgeous Doreen, it looks like you quilted then hand painted the flower!
I didn’t realize that it had that appearance til someone asked about the paints I used! It was so nice not to have to dodge applique-work or piecing seams!!!!! Using such is like the panels I’m in love with…..just get to the quilting!!!!! Yay!!!!!!!! Thnx so much for popping in and taking a moment to visit!!!! Hugs…………
This is really beautiful!! Great idea for a vintage piece!
Once you start with these little pieces….well, “obsession” may apply!!!! Thanks so much for stopping by!!!! Please, come again….hugs…………..
Great Inspiration!
Thanks,
Esther
You are so very welcome!!!!
That’s fantastic! The quilting takes a simple napkin to art status!
