In answer to a question about the fmq foot I use on my Juki. I’ve modified the foot so that it doesn’t “hop” and just skims the surface of the quilt sandwich. Leah Day showed this modification on her blog years ago and I’ve been thrilled with the results!!!!! See her video here. If you go 3:40 minutes into the video, she shows the purpose of the rubber band that I show on my fmq foot.
There must be enough contact with the fabric surface to prevent the sandwich from lifting when the needle comes up (or you will have skipped stitches!) but not so much downward pressure as to prevent smooth movement of the quilt “sandwich”. I hope this clarifies how this ‘mod’ was achieved, if not, please let me know!!!!
Thank you now I can see the logic of an elastic band.
You are very welcome!!!!
Good idea…I also saw where Leah purchased a Juki sit-down 2200QVP-S in July. Hmm, just thought I’d mention it.
Yup. It has a ton of “perks” programmed in it (thread cutter, auto lock stitch, etc) but I still much prefer my SS.
Yes, I agree. One thing I don’t care for is the continued hopping of quilting foot. I do think that would be distracting. ..guess it’s whatever you get used to.
The “hopping” motion is so different on each type/brand of machine. It’s so slight on the SS but I’ve eliminated it entirely on my Juki 2010 (drove my eyes “buggy”!!!! LOL!).
I don’t even notice the hopping action on my SS at all…if it moves it sure doesn’t move much. Yes I agree it would bother my eyes also.
The Juki is much more “dramatic” and definitely noisy, so one more slight ‘mod’ is in order today………..LOL!
Lol
Sounds like a great modification!!
I’m really excited about this and there are so many Juki owners that I’m aware of that will find this very interesting!!!!!
