My Saturday …………….

Was spent in our little town (pop. 995) at the 4th annual “Houston Hollidazzle”IMG_7687. The “hub” of this event was the high school, where the gym IMG_7642 had been transformed into a children’s giant Christmas activity room replete with various “stations” where the kids could do ‘make-and-take’ gifts, ornaments or decorate cookies……….IMG_7630IMG_7631IMG_7632 IMG_7636IMG_7637 IMG_7639                        Yup, even a spot for selfies!! A quiet(?) corner for the adults………IMG_7641   There were horse-drawn wagon rides around town IMG_7627   and, of course……………………..Santa and Mrs. Claus…………………IMG_7634   Holiday music by several soloists….IMG_7645. IMG_7629 IMG_7650 The Veterans’ Memorial and festive house lights………IMG_7651The evening provided a light parade, fireworks and the lighting of the trees in the city park……IMG_7655IMG_7656 IMG_7661   Even the Class of ‘66s “Dooby Bus” made a winter appearance. IMG_7665    Fire trucks and other local vehicles……IMG_7670 IMG_7679 IMG_7680  Of course the true Reason for the Season.                                             IMG_7683IMG_7686   IMG_7684 That was then…..and the next morning is this………..IMG_7688 Amazing what changes just so few hours can bring!!!!!!!

A footnote for those who may(?) be wondering……this took place in Houston, Minnesota, not that “other” Houston!!!!!! (but you probably have guessed that by now!!!!)

Lovely, what a wonderful thing to do, nice to see every gets together and enjoys the season, but, you can keep the snow. Merry Christmas Doreen to you and yours, may God bless and keep you all healthy.

  3. mtetar says:

Well spent and worth it. Blessings to Everyone, Mtetar

  4. So festive and joyful!

It was amazing! Interesting how fireworks doesn’t respond very well to very cold ‘thin’ air……..they ignite then ever so briefly create their “show” with a quick “poof”!!!!!! LOL!!!!! Not at all like in the middle of a hot humid summer!!!!!!

  5. Teje says:

Hi Doreen! Looks fantastic! So many beautiful and great things! I love the school bus and would like to pain the snowman on the wood! Enjoy this special season! I showed today sunshine from our garden but now it’s raining and thundering. Hugs! x Teje

    • treadlemusic says:

Will hop over to investigate. I fear our temps are returning to what they should be……just at or below the freeze mark. We’re having snow with mist at the moment (4″ of the white stuff!!!! roads are reeeeeeeally tricky!).

  6. Teje says:

… would prefer to painT the snowman! x Teje

  7. Not bad for a pop. of under 1000!

  8. Dora Scheer says:

How wonderful, and what great enthusiasm for a small town event. (I’m kind of surprised such a small town has its own high school–but I think it’s wonderful!

    • treadlemusic says:

This town is ruggedly/staunchly “defending” its identity!!! It not only has its own high/elementary school, it has principals in EACH of the schools AND a district superintendent!!!!! AND…..OWN all their own (many) buses! District enrollment <550 kids!!!!!

  9. kathyreeves says:

We have a parade of lights too, there is even a float with the famous singing toilets. Each toilet is a note and the lids go up and down…sorts of a “stinky bell choir” look. Some computer company programs a different song every year…and my apologies, but the nasty temps are due here Tuesday, and will be coming your way!

  10. witchylin says:

Your local town does celebrations very well. No matter what the season it seems everyone joins in even the weather is suitable for the occasion. 😉

  11. You know me too well – the first thing I thought (reading that at 6am when my brain cells aren’t in full gear yet) is “she was in Texas this weekend? We could’ve met up!”. It’s cold and rainy here today but no snow. That’s a beautiful scene to look at from afar! The horse drawn carriage looks especially fun!

    • treadlemusic says:

      I know…….”from afar”……..soon my/our life will be warmer!!!! LOL!!!!!

      • Don’t come down here Friday – the forecast is brrrrr! You might be tempted to turn north again! But it was nice today – no jacket needed.

        • treadlemusic says:

          17F at the moment!!!!! UGH!!!!!

          • Yikes!!! Our daughter didn’t take a coat back with her at Thanksgiving and she’s headed to the east coast on Friday – she’s in the marching band and the football team is in the playoffs. So…we’re meeting halfway tomorrow so I can get a coat to her. She’s expected to hit temps like yours – brrrr.

            • treadlemusic says:

              Definitely NOT GOOD!!!!!!!

              • No kidding. Our football team is playing right now and losing very badly. Surely part of it has to be the weather; our guys just aren’t used to the super cold temps.

                • treadlemusic says:

I don’t know how these players do it!!!! I’m a total wimp when it comes to these temps. Single digit this a.m. with 6″-8″ of snow coming by the time it ends Sunday eve. Of course, this is the weekend for my quilt gathering (tomorrow afternoon), caroling (tomorrow night), church dinner (tonight), sewing at church (this morning)……..”they” always say: “Timing is everything”!!!!!!! LOL!!!! Starting to pack for our southward jaunt!!!!!!!! ;-D

                  • Do you typically wait to come down after Christmas is over? Our cold spell is thankfully over with and it was nice and warm again this afternoon!

                    • treadlemusic says:

Yes……there’s caroling (in the snow last night—-awesome!) and other events PLUS Christmas with the great grands (maybe when they’re older/busier our leave date will change!), so the 27th has worked well. Looking forward to the warmth!!!!!

  12. I would love this holiday day in Houston. What fun. I’ve never seen a lighted holiday parade. Thanks for taking me to Houston, Minnesota that is.
