One Word Wednesday: POUTINE………………

Yup……that’s the word and that is what my lunch consisted of!!! Pronounced…poo-teen… is the national dish of Canada and is not on any Weight Watcher’s diet……guaranteed!!!!!! IMG_8298  A further Merriam-Webster definition:

Whether the gravy came a few years later or was present ab ovo is disputed. Also unclear is the origin of the word by which the dish is known. Some assert that poutine is related to the English word pudding, but a more popular etymology is that it’s from a Quebecois slang word meaning “mess.”

Whatever its origin, it really is yummy! Only 3 ingredients……..crispy French fries, (squeeky Wisconsin) cheese curds and the best brown gravy ever!!! All served screaming HOT!! And, yes, those are Wisconsin cheese curds!!!!! I’m not sure knowing/having the recipe is a good thing, though, so I will leave that pursuit up to you, the reader!!!

Bon appetit!!!!!!

How funny! My son-in-law is from Minnesota. I’ll have to pass this along to him. He loves cheese curds!

    Take care.

  2. Jeanne says:

Poutine is so good! Last time we were in Canada, we ate at a tiny diner in the middle of Ontario. We had the original style (gravy and curds) but you could get any toppings much like tacos.

  3. Thread crazy says:

When we visited our kids in Montreal several years ago, they insisted we eat poutine! Was soo good.

  4. KerryCan says:

I love poutine, too much. We live 15 miles from the Quebec border and have known about poutine for a zillion years but, all of a sudden, it seems, the word has gotten out and poutine is trendy!

In our park/resort, we have a very high percentage of French (speaking) Canadians and this year there’s a group that are quite involved in park activities. So, this is just one of their contributions!!!!!

  5. J > Mmmm! Food for hard work a cold climate!

    • treadlemusic says:
