Isn’t that a loaded question?? Practicing the “how”, 15 minutes each day, is comparatively easy but the “what” can baffle a body (and, possibly, bring about the dreaded ‘quilter’s block’!). At this point, stepping back a bit, putting ‘fresh eyes’ in place, just looking at the piece to be quilted……and letting it speak to you……may be the best solution. “Suzy Snowflake” is the piece in question, at the moment. A little reminder photo: The minimal space surrounding this linen needed some toning down, texture and, well, a little personality to compliment the centerpiece. To brainstorm a bit, I grabbed my piece of Plexiglas and dry erase marker and sketched, erased and sketched some more, with this as the resulting idea……
Here’s the Plexiglas w/o the fabric under it…..
The motif in the corners, somewhat, mirror the crochet design and will nicely fill that outer area…….
I used an air-erase marker (yes, I tested it first…..better safe than sorry!) and free-handed the design onto the fabric. No, the designs will not be identical but I really prefer that less structured/perfect look.
One corner done, 3 more to go…….. I’m using Isacord thread for this, in a very slightly darker shade of gold to further deepen the shadowing that the stitching creates. I often do this as it really enhances the visual texture.
Now, to “tame” the outer areas a bit. Hmmmmm………….please, stop back to see the final chapter of this little story…..

I totally agree with what Vicki in MN says…it’s a pleasure to read your posts….I look forward to seeing “Suzy Snowflake” completed…I’m sure whatever you do in the final analysis will be just beautiful. Rosemary would be proud of you….:)……(I hadn’t thought of Rosemary Clooney for years…thanks for reminding me….)
Isn’t it strange how these thoughts/melodies seem to sneak back into our minds?? I hadn’t either….but there it was! The very final details of this little stitchery will have to wait til I get to my TX Juki (since the foot I need to do the final fill fell apart) but one more installment post will come on Tuesday (my/our packing day before heading out on Wed.). Christmas Blessings….with hugs……
Beautiful!! I love seeing your work as it is so different than other bloggers I follow.
It has definitely gone a direction I never imagined! Christmas Blessings to you and your family!!!!
Me? I see a picot crocheted trim around the edges!😆
A good thought….definitely!!!!!
Looking forward to seeing the finally result.
Hope you have a wonderful day tomorrow.
And the same to you and yours!!!!
