Barn quilts…….

We’re back home and had a great trip out West to South Dakota and Montana/Yellowstone Park & “Old Faithful”! More on that later. What we arrived home to see was this beautiful barn quilt square all ready to hang on our dairy barn. Measuring 8’ by 8’, it’s weight was definitely intimidating….and threatening!! I had drawn up the basic design (8.5”x11”) just before we left on our trek and DS had taken it from there and created this awesome hanging!!!! A slight digression (for my Brit friends—–you know who you are! Hehe…), follow this link to a further explanation of the origin of this trend. Anyhow, back to what greeted us as we drove in our driveway….IMG_0954 Maybe a close-up……IMG_0955 Seeing the two ladders sent me to wondering how exactly this project would get mounted! DS (who actually owns our farm as of last year…..we’re just “squatters”…..he & wife live up the drive from our home) had gotten the preliminary holes drilled for the many bolts that would secure this to the structure. He just needed to wait for a friend, who is a logger, to come with a critical piece of equipment, making this process possible (safely!!!). IMG_0957 Arrival and an evaluation of the situation…. IMG_0958IMG_0959 IMG_0960 IMG_0961 And success!! This Mom was very grateful with the UNeventful positive outcome! Now, on to the next project…………

  1. This looks fantastic. The colors are perfect against the grey of the barn.

That barn was old when we bought this place 45 years ago. Milked for almost 3 years (not bad for totally city kids!!!!!!) and, now, it’s one massive storage……sigh…….LOL!!!!

  3. This is amazing. Beautiful.

Love, love, love barn quilts and yours looks amazing. I belong to a facebook barn quilt group in B.C. not because we have a barn but just because I love them so much. We have a barn trail in Essex county and I just think oh look a quilter lives there whenever I see one. Another envelope coming your way which I will mail today when I go for a haircut.

I LOVE this! I have barn envy and big quilt envy. You did a great job capturing the drama of the event!

I have to confess……the photos were taken by DH. I have learned that finding a place a bit removed from such endeavors is the best for me (based on previous experiences!). So grateful for friends with “big toys”………

  6. One never really thinks about how heavy they are when we see them hanging on a barn! Everyone did a fantastic job on this barn quilt, from the design, to making, to hanging it:)

Wow, that looks great! Glad the installation went so smoothly.

  8. Kathy Clark says:

    Holy, Moly, Wow!!”

  9. It’s beautiful!
We rented a cherry picker this year to take out some dead wood from a tree right next to the house, and then used it to pick mustang grapes from where they had grown way up in tall pine trees — now I have equipment envy! 🙂

I can totally understand that “envy”! DS had the use of a medium sized excavator to grub out some trees and I thought that a smaller (!?) version would make an awesome Christmas gift for me. Well….guess not😏
