I picked up a Christmas/winter themed panel quite a while back with thoughts of……….hmmmm……well, really, no thoughts at all! I just liked it! When gathering things together to head out to Texas, this little (24”x 33”) piece hopped right into the bag. In between projects, I like to have these types of items at the ready to snatch moments of “fmq play” and/or try out a new motif or two.
I began with outlining a section of the design, then, proceeded to make it “pop” by pushing the background down with some thread-play……..(before and after photos)

This “negative space” stitching (as with all quilt stitching) really brings life to the piece and never ceases to amaze me!
I’m using a single layer of Hobbs cotton/poly and my fave thread: Superior Variegated Gold metallic, #025 (adding texture and glisten). What are you stitching these days?? Many of you are experiencing many snowy days…….maybe some fmq fun will help to refocus???
You are not kidding when you say the stitch bring the piece to life, this is so beautiful. You are an artist with thread and fabric!
As I’ve remarked before…..I’m so amazed with that transformation!!!! Hugs……..
I’m surprised you would pack anything remotely winter-related. If Tom had searched your bag, it wouldn’t be there. 🙂
This was definitely the winter to absent yourself from Minnesota.
Oh, Audrey!! It’s unbelievable the weather y’all have been experiencing! Brady keeps us current with photos and assessments (really hard to believe!!!). Yes, Tom would have definitely questioned the presence of this piece!!!!
