While at our little camper, these past few days, I have managed to move forward on my “hexies”. Sometime ago I had decided that if any amount of time was going to be spent away from the sewing machine I would need a portable project of hand work. Enter the thought that I had always admired quilts done in the “Grandmother’s Flower Garden” pattern. Now, I have no illusions that a king sized quilt of this pattern is anywhere in my future, I thought it would be the perfect small sized solution to this dilemma. I sent for the paper hexies needed for the English paper piecing method that I was going to use, gathered all my little needed sewing/quilting notions in to a small tote and I was set! That was about 2 years ago!!!! What happened!!!!! Where did the time go!!!!! No hexies!!!!! Well, now that we have our spot by the river and have carved out more “sit around” time, this project is moving forward!!!
So, here is the spot I sit at quietly rotary cutting and basting my little geometric shapes for that very much in the future quilt(?)……..or table runner!!!!! As you can see, all the necessary items are strategically placed within easy reach…..let the sewing begin……….

I am curious to see what you will make out of these tiny pieces. I would never have enough patience to make somthing out of these.
have an nice weekend
I’m not really sure what direction I will take with these. There are many large traditional Flower Garden quilts and variations. I, generally, don’t do much hand piecing any more so we’ll see how many of these little ‘hexies’ I really complete!
Yay Doreen! I’m so excited for you! I totally get the kingsize vs. tablerunner dilema… LOL! I have a kingsized one started (with about a tablerunner portion completed)! Mine has been in the basement awaiting handwork time. I finished another handwork project during the last school year parked in the car by my son’s school. I’m going to pull out the hexies for this school year parking time! Brilliant minds… Plus we’re going camping next week and I think I’ll take it for that too!
Just the right size for pieces to fit in sandwich baggies! Have 30’s prints for the quilt but am doing fabric with coffee beans and coffee cups with Hershey Kisses on it for “mug rug”/coaster sized “flowers” for gifts….more fun type projects, I think.
Those sound fun!!! Great gift idea!
And do-able in a reasonable length of time!!!! LOL!
Is that popcorn I see on the table? I SO miss popcorn. It’s just not the same here in Australia. When I go back to the USA……I always go to movies JUST for the popcorn. And diet coke? That doesn’t taste the same here either…not as fizzy or something.
oh……this post wasn’t about popcorn and diet coke, was it? Or even ME! Hexies…..you will love your quilt or table runner when it’s done. I did one a few years ago (with the help of most of the family during the basting process) and it’s become one of my favorites. There are so many gorgeous designs.
It is not just popcorn it’s “kettle corn” (popcorn that’s salty with a hint of sweet….very addicting!!!) which isn’t greasy…..works well with sewing!!!!!! Pushing on with the hexies at the camper. Am in no hurry so will enjoy the process;-)
I love sitting outside to sew as you saw from my camping posts. You have a nice looking space there and I imagine there are birds singing and people going by now and then with a wave. Camping is fantastic.
Exactly! And boats coming and going! The best part, for me, no WiFi at the campsite!! so I’m not tempted!!! No will power here 😦
Sometimes these projects take time. We all know that and have unfinished projects. Did I ever tell you about the hole in our dining room wall which has been there three years, since we removed a brick chimney. The problem is that the whole kitchen/dining room needs work and I need to figure out how to proceed BEFORE I proceed.
And one thing leads to another & another & another! After a while the ‘eye’ doesn’t seem to notice these “little” things!! ROFL!
good luck!
I think I will live long enough!! to complete something out of the hexies, not sure what, though! LOL!
I tried to find your link to your balloon linked paisley but wasn’t successful. Would you kindly send it to me please? Sue
