Another “love”, coming in a close 2nd to quilting, is finding those unusual places to enjoy unique food creations. Harlingen (TX) is home to so many excellent restaurant, bakery, taquerrias, eating experiences that it will take years to visit them all!!!! However, DH and I (on the advice/urging of KB Jan) thoroughly enjoyed lunch, after the KB quilt meeting, at the “Antigua Bakery and Café”. With a “tea room” atmosphere (the restaurant is located in a ‘house’ structure) but with a menu that would please all comers!
The roasted Poblano soup was amazing as was the house-made hummus (available by the pound for carry-out) that accompanied it.
DH had the chicken salad (available for carry-out by the pound!) sandwich and I had a vegetarian artichoke/avocado sandwich (to “die” for!!!!). We opted for the 1/2 sandwich that included the above soup and salad (of the day…..which was Asian)…………. We will definitely be going back!!!!! Even DH spied many other offerings that were “must tries”!!!!!!
Our little table may be seen through the doorway.
Although the temps were pushing 100F, the ride was a nice one!
A huge 5-star recommendation to visit this café (open for breakfast and lunch ‘til 3:30).
You really are loving Texas, aren’t you? I would love this food and restaurant.
You would “go crazy” down here!!!! Te roads aren’t near as interesting (my opinion….but you’re a “prairie gal” so understand how roads are on the section/quarter-section and ‘boring’!). So many spots we’ve not been to, yet, but recommended!!! Sigh…………..next year……………..
Sounds yum
So glad that you enjoyed Antigua as much as I do. I just remembered… Did you get their punch card? After 10 visits you get a free meal. Be sure to get one next time. 🙂
Another reason to return!!!!!! Love this place (both of us!!!!)!!!!!!
the temp was close to 100! that is pretty hot – when are you heading north? are most of your neighbors part timers too?
Most of the neighbors have left already. Very sparse in our section. Most are RVs with “park models” interspersed. Heading out on the 12th for area West of San Antonio/the Hill Country.
That looks like a great place for lunch! Thanks for sharing –your sandwich and salad look tempting!
More prospects for the next trek!!!!!!
